Summary

Performs full scope of para-professional responsibilities in the operation of the Outreach Department of the Library.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned. 

01 Responsible for the correspondences and communications with public and staff necessary to accomplish the mission and goals of the assigned department. Assists with writing, revising and updating the manuals for the assigned department.  

02 Provides assistance to seniors, disabled, or patrons unable to access in-library services by locating and delivering suitable services and materials to meet their needs. Interacts with "homebound" patrons in a courteous and friendly manner.  

03 Uses on-line catalog and software programs to access library's print and non-print materials or information. Refers patrons (either on the phone or in person) to appropriate individual or department.

04 Assists with Outreach programs and activities for library users. Uses software programs to produce publicity material and flyers.

07 Delivers or mails materials to eligible patrons or institutions. Processes materials for rotating collections. Uses spreadsheet software to organize special rotating collections.

08 Staffs library branches. Determines the suitability of materials for re-shelving and assesses damage. Collects payments and balances receipts as needed. Shelves materials.

10 Trains, assigns and reviews the work of volunteers in the Outreach Department.

11 Delivers rotating collections, re-shelves collections and maintains balances collections in the Outreach Department.

12 Works independently of direct supervision to implement the Outreach Department's programs and procedures; work with supervisor and library staff to improve services. Keeps abreast of issues and trends that affect Outreach services through consultations, workshops, and library literature.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, library experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

01 Current Oregon Driver's License (Class C)

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule is 19 hours or less per week; exact schedules are assigned by management. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work.
