Summary

Building Inspector II (Plumbing), conducts inspections and plan reviews on plumbing work performed in one- and two-family dwellings, townhouses, manufactured dwelling parks, recreational parks, organizational camps, and picnic parks. Inspectors work to ensure compliance with the Oregon Residential Specialty Code (ORSC).

Building Inspector III (Plumbing), conducts inspections and plan reviews on commercial and residential plumbing work to ensure compliance with the Oregon Plumbing Specialty Code. Performs inspections of building and structures of all complexities in order to ascertain that Plumbing Codes and any other building codes are enforced in accordance with the State of Oregon and County Ordinances.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities    

Conducts plans reviews and field inspections of buildings and structures to as they apply to the Oregon Plumbing Specialty Code, and Oregon Plumbing Specialty Code to verify compliance with State Building Codes.

Recommends or takes appropriate corrective action to obtain compliance of construction projects with applicable codes.

Consults with and advises contractors and builders regarding applicable regulations.

Assists other departments and the public regarding applicable building regulations.

Investigates violations, interprets building code requirements and takes appropriate action.

Answers code related questions and assist the public at the Building Division front counter, by telephone and by e-mail.

Qualifications

Education, Vocational and/or Experience

Building Inspector II (Plumbing):

You must have two years of experience designing and installing plumbing systems as a Oregon journeyman plumber (JP) or its equivalent/or you must have 90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours education and training in mechanical engineering, which includes designing and installing plumbing systems, though a college or community college.

Building Inspector III (Plumbing):

You must have three years of employment and experience as an Oregon journeyman plumber (JP) or its equivalent/or you must have a degree in mechanical engineering or certified professional registration with two years of work experience in plumbing design, installation, or inspection.

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule is 8.00 hours per day 5 days per week; exact schedules are assigned by management. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work. Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
