Performs professional casework duties in the investigation, interviewing, counseling and supervision of juveniles referred to the department. Must pass a DHS criminal background check and drug screen in order to be eligible for employment. This is a benefit eligible position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following are not all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.  

01 Interviews juveniles and their families to determine disposition of referrals and make recommendations to the court, families, schools and other agencies involved with the youth.  

02 Counsels juveniles and their families in order to provide guidance for compliance with probation conditions, awareness of programs available, and aid from other agencies.  

03 Counsels and supervises juveniles through personal contact with the juveniles, their families, and involved agencies to ascertain compliance with probation.

04 Investigates and prepares legal documents such as petitions and motions and presents to the Court; answers any questions the Court may have regarding the case; recommends a disposition to the Court and carries out court ordered disposition.  

05 Maintains case histories by completing narratives and other required records, reports and statistical data as required by departmental policy and State law.  

06 Receives calls from law enforcement agencies and families requesting decisions regarding lodging of juveniles in the detention facility, shelter care placement or counseling; calls may be received during non-business hours.  

07 Confers with supervisors, other social service agencies, schools, churches, public health agencies, law enforcement agencies and others relative to individual cases in outlining treatment and care problems.  

08 Transports juveniles to and from State institutions, court hearings, residential programs, etc.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelors degree in social sciences or education and comparable experience; two years experience in juvenile counseling or other youth services.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

01 Oregon Driver's License. Note: Selected applicants will be expected to provide a certified copy of their motor vehicle driving record for a period of the past 5 years prior to employment.

02 Basic Life Support Certification

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule is 24 hours per week, may include some evening work; exact schedules are assigned by management. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work. Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
