Summary Performs full scope of clerical and para-professional responsibilities in the operation of the Reference Department of the Library.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

01 Trains, assigns and reviews the work of volunteers in the Reference Department, which includes establishing work schedules and instruction of day-to-day duties.

02 Keeps abreast of library policies and procedures, professional literature and reviews; makes suggestions and passes on public input to supervisor.

03 Suggests procedural and program changes for the Reference Department of the Library through workshops and direct consultation with the supervisor.

04 Directly assists patrons in a courteous and friendly manner while helping them locate materials, access information, or use library computers and library materials on-line; provides assistance to impaired patrons by locating material suitable for their needs.

05 In direct consultation with the Department Supervisor, implements new and continuing programs and procedure for the Reference Department. 06 Assists Department Supervisor in preparing and presenting programs and displays for adults; assists with Reference and Adult Services programs and activities for library patrons and the community at large.

07 Answers questions or refers patrons (either on phone or in person) to appropriate material either in-print or online, as well as to various agencies for assistance with specific queries.

08 Assists patrons in utilizing various library technology, including computer catalogs, database programs and multiple library equipment such as computers, printers, photocopiers, popular software, microform readers and electronic book readers and players.

09 Consults with supervisor for the purpose of control and arrangement of library materials and equipment in main library.

10 Assists Department Supervisor in selecting new and replacement materials and assigning status of materials in acquisitions/cataloging systems; assists with the de-acquisition of outdated library materials.

11 Performs other duties as assigned by the Library Supervisory team.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Requires AA Degree and 6 months library experience or GED with one year library experience.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ILS Polaris preferred.

01 Current Oregon Driver License

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule is 19 hours or less per week; exact schedules are assigned by management. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work. Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
