Operates and maintains light to heavy trucks and equipment to perform a variety of tasks associated with Chemult Landfill maintenance.

Directs landfill site customers and responds to customer inquiries, performs cashier's security functions for Crescent transfer or Chemult landfill, and performs site maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

01 At Chemult LF Operates D-7 dozer with scraper, D-6 with dozer to move solid waste materials and including snow removal from landfill area.

02 Performs maintenance and repairs on assigned equipment.

03 Opens and closes landfill or transfer station during specified work hours.

04 Answers inquires of customers in person and by telephone with pertinent information regarding landfill or transfer use and fees, visually determines load size and type and collects money based on fee schedule.  

05 Prepares and signs charge slips for credit customers.  

06 Directs vehicles to appropriate disposal areas based on type of load.  

07 Balances cash receipts at the end of the work day by use of daily cash sheets, reports any discrepancies to appropriate personnel.

08 Maintains site security by ensuring that the public remains in designated areas and monitors landfill or transfer to prevent salvaging.  

09 Maintains site area in clean and orderly manner by performing such duties as raking debris and litter pickup etc.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work in jobs having similar duties; experience and training in the operation of light to heavy maintenance equipment; knowledge, experience and training in the care of vehicles, equipment, machines and tools; experience and training in the maintenance and repair of equipment, machines and tools. Knowledge of basic cash transaction operations and cash register functions; knowledge of general office practices; knowledge of and experience in the use of basic landscaping tools; good communication skills.

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule is 8.00 hours per day varied per week as needed; exact schedules are assigned by management. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work. Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
