Summary

The Client/Patient Registration Clerk is the first point of contact for all Health Department clients coming to be seen in the clinic. This position is responsible for greeting clients, collecting client information, and ensuring that proper paperwork is completed prior to each visit. Also acts as onsite translator. Spanish and English bilingual preferred.  Successful applicant must pass a background and financial check prior to offer of employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

01 Performs patient registration tasks; data entry of patient information including demographic and insurance coverage into the computer system.

02 Serves as Spanish interpreter to facilitate communication with clients and customers.

03 Works in multiple programs to determine client's insurance eligibility.

04 Operates duplicating and copying equipment, collating and stapling materials.

05 Conducts file and electronic searches to determine immunization records, previous visits, etc.

06 Schedules patient appointments, facilitating the patient appointment with provider in a timely and effective manner; cancels or reschedules appointments as appropriate; works closely with medical staff and patients.

07 Provides appropriate community information referral services to clients and the public as needed.

08 Maintains patient files in medical records, including pulling/scanning charts for upcoming visits.

09 Ensures that patient charts are prepped for upcoming visits in a timely manner to enable more efficient registration of clinic visits.

10 Collects and processes client payments.

Education and/or Experience

01 One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

02 Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

03 Strong computer skills and experience in navigating web-based portals/databases.

04 Requires strong organizational skills, initiative, and ability to meet deadlines.

05 Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.

06 Spanish and English bilingual preferred.

01 Current Oregon Driver License

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule is 8.00 hours per day 5 days per week; management assigns exact schedules. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on times each shift they are scheduled to work.  Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.  The Public Health Employee may be required to stay at or return to work during public health incidents and/or emergencies to perform duties specific to his/her position, or to perform other duties as requested in an assigned response position.  This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and/or emergency.

Union Employees working a non-traditional work schedule will be compensated according to contract.

Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
