Patrols lakes and waterways in Klamath County, enforcing state, county and federal laws pertaining to boating; investigates crimes and citizen complaints and other matters relating to marine boating activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following are not all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

01 Patrols lakes, rivers and waterways enforcing boating laws; issues warnings or citations for violations; conducts boating inspections to ensure proper safety equipment and registration.

02 Investigates boating accidents and other violations and/or citizen complaints on and near waterways.

03 Performs preventive maintenance on assigned boats, equipment and facilities.

04 Maintains records, prepares reports, testifies in court of law and other judicial or legal hearings.

05 Provides training to schools and citizens on boating rules, laws, regulations and water safety.

06 Works with and maintains a close relationship with all law enforcement agencies.

Education and/or Experience

High school or GED certificate; must successfully complete a two week basic Marine and Law Enforcement Course after employment.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

01 Oregon Driver's License

02 First Aid Certificate

03 CPR Certification

04 Intermediate or equivalent swimming capability to comply with Marine Board standards.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Swimming: Swimming is a requirement of this position as described in the OSSA

Swim Standard outlined in the OSMB contract.

  • 100 yard swim, continual and unassisted (not timed)
  • Tread water for five (5) minutes
  • Float unassisted for five (5) minutes
  • Hold breath under water for (30) seconds

Work Schedule


The normal work schedule is 10.00 hours per day 4 days per week; exact schedules are assigned by management and likely to include weekends and holidays. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work. Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
