Summary

Building Inspector II

Conduct inspections and plan reviews on plumbing work performed in one- and two-family dwellings, townhouses, manufactured dwelling parks, recreational parks, organizational camps, and picnic parks. Inspectors work to ensure compliance with the Oregon Residential Specialty Code (ORSC). Performs inspections of building and structures of all complexities in order to ascertain that the Plumbing Codes and any other certified disciplines be enforced in accordance with the State of Oregon Codes and County Ordinances. Must pass a Non-DOT drug screen test, and fit for duty physical to be eligible for employment.

Building Inspector III

Conduct inspections and plan reviews on commercial and residential plumbing work to ensure compliance with the Oregon Plumbing Specialty Code. Performs inspections of building and structures of all complexities in order to ascertain that the Plumbing Codes and any other certified disciplines be enforced in accordance with the State of Oregon Codes and County Ordinances. Must pass a Non-DOT drug screen test, and fit for duty physical to be eligible for employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

Building Inspector II  

01 Conducts plans reviews and field inspections of buildings and structures as they apply to the Oregon Residential Specialty Code and or any other related Residential Codes and as adopted by County Ordinance.

02 Recommends or takes appropriate action to ensure compliance of Plumbing, and other residential code installations with plans and applicable codes.

03 Consults with and advises contractors and builders regarding applicable regulations.

04 Performs field checks of code installations.

05 Assists other departments, contractors and builders regarding applicable regulations.

06 Interprets code requirements; investigates violations and takes appropriate action.

07 Answers code related questions and assists the public at the counter.

Education and/or Experience

Building Inspector II

You must have two years of experience designing and installing plumbing systems as a Oregon journeyman plumber (JP) or its equivalent/or you must have 90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours education and training in mechanical engineering, which includes designing and installing plumbing systems, though a college or community college.

Building Inspector III

You must have three years of employment and experience as an Oregon journeyman plumber (JP) or its equivalent/or you must have a degree in mechanical engineering or certified professional registration with two years of work experience in plumbing design, installation, or inspection.

02 Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC)

03 Oregon State Certification (CAP) Residential Plumbing Inspector. Building Inspector II

04 Oregon State Certification (PI) Plumbing Specialty Code Inspector. Building Inspector III

05 One additional Oregon State qualified Inspector Certifications. Building Inspector II

06 Two additional Oregon State qualified Inspector Certifecations. Building Inspector III

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule is 8.00 hours per day 5 days per week; exact schedules are assigned by management. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work. Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
