Summary

Trains with County certified staff while enrolled in one or more entry-level Residential Courses through Oregon State Building Codes Division (BCD) to obtain entry-level residential certifications. Performs plan review exempt from certification requirements while obtaining certifications. Rides along on inspections with County certified inspection staff to obtain required course inspection hours. Trainee must pass a Non-DOT drug screen test, and fit for duty physical to be eligible for employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

01 Enroll in at least one or more entry-level Residential Courses through the Oregon State Building Codes Division (BCD); obtain one entry-level residential certification.

02 Train under certified County staff who will be conducting plan review, and or field inspections of buildings and structures to verify compliance with the State Building Codes.

03 Conduct plan reviews exempt from certification requirements as per OAR 918-098-1010.

04 Train under certified County staff to consult with and or advising contractors and builders regarding applicable regulations.

05 Train under certified County staff to learn how to investigate violations, interpret building code requirements and learn to take appropriate action.

06 Answers code related questions and assist the public at the Building Division front counter, by telephone and by e-mail with supervision and guidance of certified staff.

Education and/or Experience

At least 3-5 years of experience working in jobs having similar duties or knowledge of principles and practices of structural building codes and government legal procedures and terminology in the area of structural building codes and regulations, materials, techniques and safety standards.

03 Must obtain one entry-level Residential Certification through the Oregon State Building Codes Division (BCD) within six months of hire.

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule is 8.00 hours per day 5 days per week; exact schedules are assigned by management. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work. Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
