Directs landfill site customers and responds to customer inquiries, performs cashier's security functions for transfer or landfill site, and performs site maintenance. Must pass a background and financial check prior to offer of employment. Must pass a Non-DOT drug screen test to be eligible for employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

01 Opens and closes landfill or transfer station during specified work hours by opening gate, transfer boxes and cash drawer.  

02 Answers inquiries of customers in person and by telephone with pertinent information regarding landfill use and fees.  

03 Visually determines load size and type and collects money based on fee schedule.  

04 Prepares and signs charge slips for credit customers.  

05 Directs vehicles to appropriate disposal areas based on type of load.  

06 Balances cash receipts at the end of the work day by use of daily cash sheet; reports any discrepancies to appropriate personnel.  

07 Arranges bins for recyclables and prepare recyclables for shipment.  

08 Maintains site security by ensuring that the public remains in designated areas and monitors landfill to prevent salvaging.  

09 Maintains site area in clean and orderly manner by performing such duties as raking debris from bank of landfill pit and basic landscaping tasks, etc.

10 Drives pilot car for heavy transport as needed.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position, serving as attendant at the landfill site; the normal work schedule is 8.00 hours per day 5 days per week; exact schedules are assigned by management. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work. Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
