Performs construction inspection work requiring the application of technical skills; knowledge of construction surveying; knowledge of construction engineering principles; knowledge of basic materials testing for field and laboratory tests; knowledge of traffic control and safety; basic knowledge of project development and design.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

01 Participates in the design and preparation of Public Works projects.

02 Inspects contract projects including but not limited to asphalt overlay/inlay, chip seal, road reconstruction, and storm drain construction.

03 Maintains a complete and accurate inspector's diary; provides documentation as required to ensure complete records of the contract for payment and construction.

04 Assists in preparation of payment for work completed on contract projects.

05 Works with Contractors and Road Department personnel concerning projects.

06 Assists or occasionally performs field surveys for data accumulation for various county projects.

07 Assists or occasionally performs construction stake out surveying including but not limited to stockpile layout/final measure surveys and topographic surveys.

08 Assists or occasionally performs engineering and surveying computations.

09 Performs laboratory tests on construction materials such as asphalt and aggregates to ensure compliance with specifications.

10 Reviews plans and specifications, and then ensures compliance during construction for the utility companies, private developers and county contract projects.

11 Assists the public and other agencies in obtaining copies of maps, road records and related information.

12 Researches deeds, maps, records and titles for survey projects.

13 Performs drafting work in CAD from field notes and data collectors and on miscellaneous maps.

14 Utilizes GIS to prepare data for Public Works.

15 Operates electronic distance meter, transits, theodolite, GPS, level, etc.

Education and/or Experience

Experience in all phases of road construction; knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in road and utility construction; knowledge of occupational hazards and cautions applicable to road and utility construction; familiarity with laws, regulations and ordinances governing construction and road right-of-way. 3-5 years experience inspecting road construction projects.

05 LSIT Certificate Preferred

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule is 8.00 hours per day 5 days per week; exact schedules are assigned by management. Currently this position works 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
