Controls noxious weeds for individuals and agencies under contract with Klamath County. (Seasonal position, not to exceed 8 months. Approximately April - October). Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

01 Controls noxious weeds by chemical application or utilization of hand tools on private property and property under the control of other agencies.

02 Repairs and maintains County weed sprayers and vehicles.

03 Maintains current Chemical Applicator's License by attending continuing education classes.

04 Completes daily records of location, type, and application rate of chemicals applied.

05 Supervises weed control drivers/helpers; organizes and directs daily work activities in the field.

Applicants must possesss a valid Commercial Pesticide Applicators License or must have passed the required tests to obtain a Public Pesticide Applicators License with a minimum category requirement of "Regulatory Weed and/or Right-of-Way" in order to be eligible for employment. For information on how to obtain a Public Pesticide Applicators Licesens please contact the Oregon Department of Agriculture Pesticide Licensing Division of the Klamath County Weed Control.

Education and/or Experience

Experience or training in recognition and eradication of noxious weeds; thorough knowledge of Klamath County's road system and Oregon State Highway system. Experience in off-road driving, operating ATV's and small boats; experience operating GPS units and reading maps. Accustom to working outdoors.

02 Oregon All Terrain Vehicle Safety Education card

03 CPR Certification

04 First Aid Certificate

05 Chemical Applicator's License (Minimum Categories: Regulatory Weed).

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule is 8.00 hours per day 5 days per week; exact schedules are assigned by management. It is the attendance standards of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work.  Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.  Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency. Employees working in this position may be required to work over-time.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises 1 to 3 employees in the Weed Control. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
