The Special Agent will conduct follow-up investigations on criminal cases prosecuted by the District Attorney's Office and assist Deputy District Attorneys in preparing cases for trial. Special Agent will conduct extensive interviews with victims, witnesses, and law enforcement to ensure the facts of the case are solid and a speedy resolution is attained. Special Agent will attend all Major Crime Team call outs with the District Attorney to ensure both physical and forensic evidence is secured and obtained. This position is responsible for reviewing supplemental reports as they come in from law enforcement, and keeping the DDA apprised as the case moves forward.

The Special Agent shall serve at the direction and discretion of the District Attorney.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

0l Assesses original in-depth investigations for weaknesses and/or areas needing further attention.

02 Review interviews with witnesses to crimes to assess statement validity at the time statement is given and continues to compare statements to new information uncovered throughout the course of the case.

03 Examines physical evidence to work as a liaison between experts (forensic or otherwise) and the District Attorney's office in preparation for trial.

04 Prepares written reports detailing the assessments of the investigation and casework done by the Investigator and law enforcement agencies. May testify at Grand Jury or in court, as needed.

05 Maintain contact with witnesses or suspects to continually assess fitness as a witness, and serves subpoenas on last minute witnesses, if needed.

06 Helps prepare witnesses for testimony.

07 Acts as liaison between local law enforcement agencies and the District Attorney's office. Helps maintain chain of custody for physical evidence.

08 Assists in the transporting and maintaining the safety of victim's witnesses.

09 Attend Major Crime Team call outs.

10 Attend autopsies as requested by District Attorney.

11 Demonstrates the conduct and behavior of a team player by helping create a professional and rewarding work environment for all District Attorney Employees.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference10 years paid experience as a Police Officer that involves specialized investigative experience including such physical crimes as rape, robbery, homicide, arson, assault, burglary, etc.

01 Current Oregon Driver License

02 Current Private Investigator License

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule is 8.00 hours per day 5 days per week; exact schedules are assigned by management. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work.  Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.  Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
