Summary

Under the supervision of the Librarian and the direction of the Library Assistant III, performs the full scope of clerical and para-professional responsibilities in the operation of the circulation department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

01 Trains and revises the work of Library Assistant I and volunteers in the Circulation Department, which includes instruction of day-to-day duties.  

02 Prepares and returns library material to appropriate location, utilizing alphabetical and numerical filing systems.  

03 Consults with supervisor prior to discharging any library materials that appear unsuitable for reshelving.  

04 Refers patrons (either on phone or in person) to appropriate individual or department; provides assistance to impaired patrons by locating materials suitable to their needs.  

05 Consults with supervisor for the purpose of control and arrangement of library materials in main library.  

06 Checks in and out materials to patrons both manually and on computer terminal.  

08 Establishes eligibility of patrons for issuance of a library card; prepares library cards.  

09 Collects payments and issues receipts.  

10 Keeps apprised of library policies and procedures.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

01 Maintain valid Oregon driver's license.

Work schedule

The normal work schedule is 19 or less hours per week; exact schedules are assigned by management. It is the attendance standard of the employer that all employees be present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work.  Full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.  Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
