Summary

Enforces and prevents violations of state and local traffic, criminal and civil laws and ordinances in order to protect life and property and provide safety to the community served.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following are not all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

01 Patrols public highways and roadways, business and residential areas; issues warnings or citations for violations; makes security checks and checks for suspicious persons or vehicles; responds to calls regarding crimes, violations and incidents, collects information and prepares documentation of activities and takes appropriate action.

02 Arrests persons and when appropriate, in the performance of various duties; transports suspects and prisoners; follows established procedures in all dealings with suspects, prisoners and the public.

03 Conducts investigations of traffic accidents, crimes and criminal complaints, which includes checking for injured persons, administering emergency first aide, controlling and preserving scenes and gathering information and evidence.

04 Serves subpoenas, summons, warrants and appears as a witness in court to testify.

05 Provides assistance with search and rescue operations.

06 Develops and maintains proficiency in the use of a variety of equipment associated with law enforcement duties including defensive weapons, vehicles, breath testing instruments, evidence gathering equipment, radar, mobile data terminals, computers, smart phones and other communication equipment.

07 Informs the public and answers inquiries regarding directions, laws, ordinances, complaint procedures and provides other general assistance.

08 Maintains written record of activities and prepares reports as necessary.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school or GED certificate, age 21, no criminal history that involves serious misdemeanors, felonies or extensive driving record. Must meet minimum standards specified in OAR 259-008-0010 for employment as a law enforcement officer.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

01 Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Basic Certification, which must be obtained within one year of employment.

02 Oregon Driver's License

03 First Aid Certificate

04 CPR Certification

Work Schedule

The normal work schedule is 8.00 hours per day 5 days per week or 10 hours a day 4 days per week; exact schedules are assigned by management.

CRIMINAL HISTORY

Applicants cannot have a criminal history involving serious misdemeanors or felonies; background checks will be conducted.
